What Kind of Engine Does the Maserati Levante Have?

Well-Equipped, Performance-Tuned Mid-Size SUV

The Maserati Levante stands alone against the rest of the mid-size SUV class. Most mid-size SUVs come standard with four cylinders and some turbocharging, but not the Levante. This elegant Italian SUV comes with two engine choices with various levels of tuning to achieve sports-car horsepower, torque, and acceleration.

Engine Options with Turbocharging and Sport Tuning

The Maserati Levante engine options include a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 and a 3.8-liter turbocharged V8. All models have an eight-speed automatic.

The Ferrari-built V8 only comes on the top trim - the Maserati Levante Trofeo. The V8 delivers 580 horsepower and 548 lb-ft of torque with a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds thanks to the twin-turbo. The EPA-estimated fuel economy on the V8 is 13/20 MPG.

The base Levante engine comes on the GT trim. It’s a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 350 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This engine delivers an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 16/22 MPG. It goes from 0-60 in 5.8 seconds.

The V6 Maserati Levante engine size stays the same in the Modena and Modena S trims but tunes it to get more horsepower and speedier acceleration. The Modena has 430 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque with a 0-60 speed of 4.9 seconds, while the Modena S has 550 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque with an acceleration speed of 4.2 seconds. The Modena has the same fuel economy as the GT, while the Modena S gets the same fuel economy as the Trofeo.

Additional Performance Features on the Levante

The Maserati Levante engine offers drivers several modes that adjust the transmission and fuel consumption. The four modes on the GT and Modena trims include Normal, Sport, Off-Road, and Increased Control & Efficiency (ICE). Maserati added the Corsa Mode to the V8 Trofeo model.

All trims come with the legendary Maserati Q4 Intelligence all-wheel-drive system. Drivers can enjoy rear-wheel drive in normal driving conditions to maximize fuel economy. When traction becomes dicey, the Q4 system engages the front wheels in a speedy 150 milliseconds. Maserati also added torque vectoring and a mechanical limited-slip differential for more stability on the road.

Another feature that adds to the 2022 Maserati Levante performance is the Active Air Suspension. This feature raises or lowers the vehicle based on the road and terrain. Drivers can choose from six settings that deliver high clearance for off-roading and a low setting for better fuel economy on smooth highways. Drivers who want a semi-autonomous driving experience can add the Driver Assistance Package with Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pedestrian Detection, and Automatic Emergency Braking along with other Level-2 systems.
